Amenities in Seagrove Beach
The sands of Seagrove Beach stretch around a cove and over 1.5 miles of splendid aqua waterfront. More water sports and pristine recreation is right at Eastern Lake and Deer Lake, too. Deer Lake State Park features almost 2000 acres with walking trails, boardwalk, and lots of picnic spots. In Seagrove Beach, family and friends romp in the waves and build sand castles. They stroll the weathered boardwalks and bicycle through the lush sand pine, hickory, oak and magnolia trees. Many kayak and canoe or fish.
And there’s always a quaint or intimate place to get a bite to eat or browse. Old fish houses and cafés meet new markets, specialty shops, artsy boutiques and galleries throughout Seagrove Beach.
History of Seagrove Beach
Before paved roads in the early 1900s, the area was called Russ’s Hammock. It was very difficult to access through the forest. Highway 30A was just a dirt road and did not cross Western Lake. In 1949, the McGee family settled and a few other cabins appeared along with the small Seagrove Hotel. As new roads and bridges were built, new development sprang up along the now-paved Scenic Highway 30A.
