“30A Real Estate”
30A real estate continues its growth with a new project proposed called Kaiya Beach Resort. This new “gem in the necklace” of South Walton is proposed for development on one of the last parcels along scenic Highway 30A. The upscale resort is to be 26 acres total and located at the corner of South Watersound Parkway and County 30A just West of Alys Beach and if it moves forward will likely be quite an addition to 30A real estate. The plan is to have 59 single-family homes, 15 townhomes, and a 20-room boutique inn that includes a spa and fitness center. 60,000 square feet of restaurant and shopping space is also proposed for the development. The developers are Romair Construction and entrepreneur John Pinkerton. A proposal developed by architects plus the environmental and design team has been submitted to Walton County officials with the idea of beginning construction by the end of this year if approval is granted. The developers say the project is to preserve and protect 30A’s unique environment, the team having that in mind. There is to be a heavy emphasis on low-density construction, parks, and green space with 35% being dedicated to parks, biking and walking trails, a town square, gardens, and wetland preservation areas. Improvements and additions to the bike path on 30A and underground electrical and utility lines are also proposed to preserve and enhance the area's appeal and lessen the impact. At this point, the proposal will be vetted by the county staff followed by an extensive public review that includes a technical review committee, design board, and the planning commission before approval. My understanding is that currently there is no direct deeded beach access but that the developers are working on what would be not only a valuable but a very necessary asset.
